Midnight Musing: Iron & Wine

As I started listening to Iron & Wine's new album Kiss each other clean I couldn't help but post one of the songs here.  Now I'm sure some of you are not fans of the new album because of Sam's exploration of a more pop/electronic sound.  Don't get me wrong, when I saw Sufjan Stevens in concert a few months ago I had a really hard time with some of his new stuff for that same reason.  I haven't had a chance to really delve into the whole album but a couple of songs really stood out.  I found this solo acoustic version of Tree by the River.  It takes me back to his older albums.

I also really like the single from the new album walking far from home. (this is a better taste of his new stuff)

So check it out and let me know what you think about Sam Beam's latest album!

Premium Musics: Bear in Heaven

I am feeling a lot of pressure on my second post. I think I feel a need to meet the expectations I set in my first post and I'm worried that it won't meet your expectations. So hopefully this won't be an epic failure.

I kind of feel like exposing y'all to something a little different, so I chose the band Bear in Heaven for this weeks post. They are an experimental rock band from Brooklyn with two full length albums, the most recent of which is called "Beast Rest Forth Mouth" and was released in 2009. They are pretty much unheard of across the Americas, but they deserve some The band's logo is pretty weird, some kind eyes with wings or something under them...ya, my description doesn't do it justice, but luckily the entire video is just a high quality picture of it, so you'll get to experience it.

From their newest (and best) album I chose a song called "Lovesick Teenagers." Don't read into the title for the reason that I chose it, cause that kind of thinking won't get you anywhere. I chose this song because I like it. End of discussion. Also, the song seems to remind me of some other songs, but I can't quite put my finger on it. So if you have any ideas as to what it sounds like I would love to hear it. With that said, I'm not sure yet how I feel about the rest of the album, but I know that I like this song, so that's good enough for now/me/you.

May the stars guide the course of your life.

Midnight Musing: Boy & Bear

I figured that most of my posts will occur sometime around midnight, hence the title.

I was thinking at length as to which song I wanted to first share with everyone.  Let me say it is not an easy decision.  I actually felt a lot of pressure to pick something amazing.  I thought I had the song I wanted but when I looked it up on youtube it led me to another song.. then another.. yeah, this is how I find my tunes.

Anyway, the song I finally ended up choosing is from Boy & Bear.  A band that until 20 minutes ago I had never heard of.  They are an australian folk rock quintet.  They formed the band in 2009 and have released an EP entitled Emperor Antarctica.  After listening to their EP I would describe their sound as a blend of fleet foxes, mumford & sons, and local natives.  I'm having a hard time finding where to download their music because their album isn't yet available in the US itunes.  But you can get a free download of Mexican Mavis (their single) if you sign up for their mailing list.  Definitely worth it.

I chose Rabbit Song because of the creative video and the "whoohoo-ing".  I'm a sucker for music with whoohoo's in it..

Hope you like.

Premium Musics: Superhumanoids

I like premium music, and I aim to share it with you. So let us begin this journey together.

This weeks song is called "Hey Big Bang" by Superhumanoids. They are an LA-based  group that released this song along with 5 others last summer in an EP called "Urgency." If you are interested, you can download the songs for free or buy them at their website. After listening to the songs a few times I would say that it is a good idea to get them. it is pretty solid so I would say go for it, but it's your decision so why don't you listen to a couple songs, enjoy the videos, and then go to the site to get their goods.

If you liked that song, I would strongly suggest watching another music video of theirs that stars one of my favorite YouTube comedians, Kyle Mooney, from the group GoodNeighborstuff.

Choose the right!

Mostly the means but also mostly the end

Welcome friends, family, and the general interweb surfing population to But Also Mostly, the world's newest and most influential music blog.

This blog is the product of the collective geniuses of Brett and Jo. We plan on writing blog posts with the purpose of exposing the world (those who take the time to read this blog) to what we like to call "quality" music. Our definition of "quality" is completely subjective, but our opinions are the most superior when it comes to every essential, important, or interesting topic. Therefore, the music we plan on introducing you to will be of the most superior and excellent quality.

Music plays an important role in our lives, while we may not create much, we thoroughly enjoy listening to and finding new artists and styles of music. In so doing, we have come across a vast array of styles and artists that are both widely unknown and amazing and we would like to start sharing our discoveries with more people. Thus, 2 to 4 times a week we will create posts that highlight a band or song with a sample song, maybe some info, some links, and/or some free downloads.

With that said, music is a powerful tool. It has a great impact on people to both good and bad ends. The music we have found has made a positive impact on our lives  and we would hope that through the proliferation of quality/positive music we can allow it to have a similar impact on you.We can all make changes in the world, we can all impact it in positive ways and we would hope that this is one way we can begin to accomplish that.

So listen to the music, let it have a positive impact on your life and share it with others.

Peace. Love. Music.
